Community Care Alliance CEO Receives Vision Award

William Little, President of the Key Program, presents the Vision Award to Benedict F. Lessing, Jr.

On December 6, 2018, the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families (RICCF) recognized Benedict F. Lessing, Jr., President/CEO of Community Care Alliance with the Coalition Vision Award. Ben was one of the founders of the Coalition, now 38 agencies strong, that works on behalf of RI's children and families to advocate for better legislation and policy. One of the Coalition's victories was the passage of the Voluntary Extension of Care Act (H-5807 and S-0669), which will provide resources and services, supporting the transition into adulthood of children leaving the foster care system until they are 21. This law reinstates a previous policy that had reduced the age of support to 18, but was shown to be disadvantageous to the state’s foster youth. Ben was RICCF's first and only chair from its inception (about 4 years ago) until he recently passed the gavel to Craig Gordon, Executive Director of Communities for People.
