100 Youth Gain Job Experience This Summer

Teens in the Summer Youth Program at Work Readiness Training/Orientation.
Dekhi is working at Landmark Medical Center this summer.

Thanks to funding from the Workforce Partnership of Greater RI, the Governor's Workforce Board, and employers that partner with Community Care Alliance, 100 teens and young adults are working this summer. To prepare these ambitious young people for their sometimes first experience in the working world, CCA provides a week of work readiness training, covering workplace expectations, resume building, interviews and financial literacy. Fourteen local employers (see list below) provide five weeks of work experience to participating teens.

Last year, 67 youth in the summer jobs program gained permanent employment. Dekhi Touray (pictured at left), who recently graduated from Woonsocket high school, is interested in a career in psychology. This summer he is working at Landmark Medical Center in the Nursing Department and plans to attend CCRI in the fall.

Summer Jobs Tour...

Our tour brought us to several work sites: The Woonsocket Call, Cold Spring Park, Stadium Theatre, and the Woonsocket Middle School. These young people were happy to have the opportunity to gain some work experience.

I like seeing how the newspaper is put together. I'm learning more computer skills and how to work with customers."
