Serenity Center Open House Celebrates New Location
The Serenity Center, which was established in 2015, hosted an Open House on Tuesday, October 22nd from 9-11am, to celebrate its new storefront location at 66 Social Street, Woonsocket. A Health Equity Zone initiative administered by Thundermist Health Center and supported by the Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition and other community partners; this program of Community Care Alliance is a peer run drop-in center for people in recovery.
Speakers included Lisa Carcifero, Director of the Blackstone Valley Prevention Coalition and Benedict F. Lessing, Jr., Community Care Alliance President/CEO.
Built around and dedicated to the belief that recovery from addiction is possible, Serenity is a free family-friendly center “for all stages of addiction recovery,” and is open Sundays—Wednesdays: 9-5pm; Thursdays—Saturdays: Noon-8pm. Over 70 support groups are offered each month, like Medication Assisted Treatment, AA and Narcotics Anonymous, and Families Coping with Addictions. A person can visit and get a referral for basic needs and family supports, financial literacy classes, and health and wellness activities.
Certifed Peer Recovery Specialists, have been facilitating activities like Motown Karaoke Night, Movie Night, Cookie Baking, Jewelry Making, Picnic in the Park, etc... since the Serenity Center opened in 2015.
Since August 1st, 70 individuals have signed up as members. They have been assisted with access to housing, employment, treatment, food and more.
