The New Normal: LGBTQ+ Youth Living Through COVID-19

Stump Evans, The Harbour Youth Center Program Manager, is a regular guest on the WOON monthly radio show, Community Connections.

Stump Evans, The Harbour Youth Center Program Manager, spoke at  The New Normal: LGBTQ+ Youth Living Through COVID-19, a national conference organized by the Philadelphia Coalition for Queer Justice and Intersectional Equity.

The national conference gathered medical professionals, child welfare workers, prevention workers, mentors, and executives from a variety of disciplines to discuss the state of LGBTQ+ youth in the child welfare system and how their experiences have changed in light of COVID-19.

Now more than ever there is a need to share what’s working for frontline professionals across the country. The symposium aims to “bridge-the-gap” and elevate the voices of experts in the pursuit of equity for our LGBTQ+ youth across the country.

Stump Evans, The Harbour Youth Center Program Manager, highlighted the innovative strategies that her team has created to stay engaged with clients, provide employment opportunities, clinical supports and academic services on virtual platforms.

The Harbour staff continue to offer virtual drop-in hours to 2700 clients which caught the eye of the national symposium organizer at the University of Maryland prompting them to invite Stump Evans as a guest panelist.

On October 15 and 16th, the symposium reached capacity, with 1700 people from all over the country registering to participate. Stump’s panel, Working and Supporting Youth During COVID, reached over 700 people across the country! The Harbour is a program of Community Care Alliance.
