Making Strides Against Homelessness with the Return of ShelterWalk 2023

A 30+ years tradition of community compassion and involvement

Community Care Alliance (CCA) invites the public to join in the return of an in-person ShelterWalk on September 30, 2023 beginning at a new location at 800 Clinton Street in Woonsocket at 10:30 AM. Walkers and non-walking supporters may also attend a pre-event fundraising breakfast from 9:00AM to 10:15 at Missy’s Family Restaurant, located across the street from the walk’s start.

Route: Participants will "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" along a route that traverses Woonsocket from 800 Clinton Street to 245 Main Street via Social Street, and back to 800 via Clinton Street—approximately one mile. This carefully chosen path will highlight key services and resources offered by CCA and other providers that benefit unhoused clients and neighbors.

“For over three decades, this inspiring event has been a poignant declaration of community spirit and solidarity against homelessness. As the organization continues its unwavering commitment, the urgent need to combat homelessness remains as pressing as ever. This event will raise awareness about the issues facing homeless individuals, but also critical funds for homelessness and homelessness prevention in the Woonsocket area,” said Benedict Lessing, President/CEO at Community Care Alliance.

Individuals, families and teams from schools, churches, businesses and neighborhoods are encouraged to participate. Platinum Sponsors for this event are: Mutual of America, Provider Group, Amica and BankRI.

Admission to the walk is free with option to donate and peer-to-peer fundraise. Walkers are also welcome to arrive the day of the event for in-person registration starting at 10:00 AM. Find out more at https://CommunityCareRI.org/ShelterWalk. Breakfast tickets are $25 and can be secured by registering at: https://rb.gy/ytxx5.

All donations raised for ShelterWalk will augment the agency’s Client Emergency Fund to benefit housing related crises.  Last year, Community Care Alliance utilized the Client Emergency Fund to provide crucial support to over 50 individuals facing housing crises, offering vital assistance such as rental support and temporary shelter, where no other resources were available.
