Last year, the original state budget proposal for homeless services caused such an uproar over funding shortages that Gov. Dan McKee changed course and appropriated additional millions of dollars.
But the pandemic relief money he used then has dried up, and the
number of unhoused Rhode Islanders is even higher. McKee proposed new funding solutions to help the crisis in his budget, but the situation is tenuous for shelter providers who are also fearful of how
federal spending cuts will affect them.
