The Mobile Crisis and Emergency Services Teams |
Meeting People Where They Are
On a recent Saturday night, the Mobile Crisis Team was called out for someone being discharged from the hospital who needed emergency assessment due to their fragile mental health status. That night, the Mobile Crisis Team coordinated with the Emergency Services Team to connect this individual with a prescriber for an emergency medication appointment, which provided enough stabilization to be able to proceed with intake into services.
Family members were relieved. “The Community Care Alliance Mobile Crisis and Emergency Services staff were the first providers that took my family seriously and didn't give up when the situation became challenging,” said the client’s mother. Her son is now established in our Community Support Program.
Having 24/7 services and access to emergency psychiatry allows our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), including Community Care Alliance, to deliver services when and where they are truly needed. Meeting people where they are—this is the main principle behind our certification as a CCBHC and requires considerable staffing and coordination.
There have been many cases of success due in large part to inter-agency collaboration like the one between The Mobile Crisis Team, CCA Emergency Services and the Medical Team. Emergency medication appointments, such as the one provided to our client, are possible because of expanded hours funded by the SAMHSA CCBHC Improvement and Advancement Grant.
Since implementation, Community Care Alliance has greatly expanded capacity for Mobile Crisis services with a new team of 16 mental health professionals. A quarter of these provide overnight or per diem coverage and we are ready to dispatch 2 persons to each outreach as required by the CCBHC standards. Operational protocols have been developed. Staff have been hired and trained. WE ARE READY!
